The Star in the Pail: A Child's Set of Seasons

The Star in the Pail: A Child's Set of Seasons

$35.00

Tenor, Viola, Cello, Piano

In a chamber setting of five poems by David McCord, we see each of the seasons through a child's eyes. The cycle begins with Christmas Eve, full of excited anticipation for what may (or may not) appear in the stocking. Triolet finds the child reporting that, "The birds in the feeder are fighting again!" In The Star in the Pail, fetching water on a clear summer evening is a magical moment. As the leaves begin to turn, a jack-o'-latern slowly takes on a spooky shape in Mr. Macklin's Jack o'Lantern. Finishing a year older and wiser in Come Christmas, we see the stars atop Christmas trees as symbols of the "one star in this same big sky so long ago.”

A humorous and thoughtful blend of poetry and music for any time of year.

Commissioned for the Merrill C. Oaks Family and premiered as part of the 2000 Temple Square Concert Series, Salt Lake City
