Abide With Me, 'Tis Eventide

"Did not our hearts burn within us?" asked the disciples as they pondered the significance of the now familiar stranger they had met while on the road to Emmaus. Only after the fact did they realize that is was their Lord who they had invited in saying, "Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." In each one's life there are those times when the "shadows of the evening fall" particularly dark, and the comforting companship of The welcome guest is sorely needed. In the words of this beloved hymn, expressively set in this prayerful arrangement, the collective and individual plea is made, "O Savior, stay this night with me; behold 'tis eventide." Come, Rejoice

"Sing, rejoice, the King of Love, speaks to earth from heaven above." That the Lord and Christ of ancient times has spoken and continues to speaks to earth again today is the message of this great hymn. That his gospel of "priceless truths" is going forth, "cheering every land" surely gives us reason to "shout hosanna to his name." A heralding trumpet-call accompaniment, together with a unison (or octave) choral setting, creates a moving and energetic, yet easily-learned setting for sacred services. (Catalogue PM1011)

I Sing the Mighty Power of God

If You Could Hie to Kolob

Set on Vaughan Williams' hymn tune, Kingsfold, these two matching hymn settings portrays anew the reverent majesty of God, his attributes, and his countless creations. As His works unfold without number, so also this well-known melody continously develops, from a unison a capella "oo", to a full, rich four-part texture. Retaining its stately English origins, as well as supplying fresh and beautiful countermelody in both accompaniment and choral parts throughout, these arrangement were written to be successful with both experienced and less-experienced men's ensembles, and with limited rehearsal time.

Infant Holy

This simple and well-known children's hymn-carol reminds of the humble nativity surroundings, above which the angels sang to those who had ears to hear— "Christ the babe is born for you." In keeping with the innocence and simplicity of the original text and music, this arrangement utilizes unison melodic singing (men/women), with only an occassional divisi. The gentle piano accompaniment and lyric flute interludes make this a beautiful arrangement for Christmas services, and is appropriate for both beginning and advanced choirs.

Jesus, Once of Humble Birth

"Once a meek and lowly lamb, Now the Lord, the great I Am." In this gentle hymn setting, the first and second comings of the Savior are contrasted. While traditional images of Christmas center around the pastoral scene of the gentle babe in a manger of hay, it is because of the future mission of the child that the heavenly hosts sang at his birth. He who was above all things descended below all things in order to raise them up with him at the last day. "Once all things he meekly bore, But he now will bear no more." This moving arrangement draws largely upon the vocal setting of the original hymn, and is particularly appropriate for both Christmas and Easter services. Orchestral parts also available on rental. Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
(Psalms 50:2)

Regal and stirring, baroque-like in its contrapuntal accompaniment, this setting of Edward Partridge's hymn truly celebrates the splendor of His coming "which prophets did foretell" from the beginning, and the preparation of His people now to meet their Lord "triumphant in the air." An arrangement heroically suited its message, and one you will want more than one opportunity to sing. (Catalogue PM1009)

Rise Up, O Men of God

In this traditional Presbyterian hymn, men individually and unitedly pledge to "Rise up!", to put away the things of youth, to tread the path that their Lord has tread before, and to "Give heart and soul and mind and strength To serve the King of Kings." By so doing they reign-in "the day of brotherhood," and "end the night of wrong." Thy Holy Word

"We love to hear… we love to read… we love to share." The personal spiritual progression from first hearing the word of the Lord, to sharing it, is beautifully portrayed in this prayer of gratitude as women and men effectively alternate verses— including a stiring proclamation and bearing witness by the men (divisi) in verse three. Together closing with the heartfelt plea, "Oh, help us, Lord… to live it all our days," this expanded musical setting is both fervent and joyful in its expression for the holy word as may be experienced by the faithful seeker in their spiritual journey. We Love Thy House, O God

Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. (Psalms 26:8)

Whether on Mount Sinai where the Lord requested Moses remove his shoes, or within the sanctity of the home of the faithful, a "house of prayer" where the "word of life" is taught, and lived, and loved, can be the Lord's house, where his spirit is invited and present. For those who are his servants, the Lord promises to greet "his chosen flock" in the most holy places and be in their midst. The undulating organ accompaniment in this arrangement may additionally represent the waters of life in this smooth and effective setting of the Robertson hymn. (Catalogue: PM1002)

Where Can I Turn for Peace

He descended below all things that he might rise above all things and raise us with him.  He was, as Paul said, a high priest with compassion, for he himself was "compassed with infirmity," that he might know how to succor his people.  The words of this sacred hymn both pose the pleading question, "Who, who can understand?", and provide the answer, "He- only one."  That in our Gethsemanes he is "constant, kind," and "love without end," is the message of this latter-day psalm and newly adapted sacred setting.
