This Wesley hymn text is among his most well known and well loved. First published in 1747, this anthem is frequently set to the hymn tunes Beecher and Hyfrydol, but here for the first time it is set to Beech Spring, an early American folk tune which provides a distinct strength matching this stirring verse. My Faith Looks Up to Thee

Ray Palmer (1808-1887) wrote these words while employed as a teacher at a private girl's school in New York. He had experienced a difficult year of illness and lonelienss and was inspired to write this verse one night after meditating on a German poem depicting a sinner kneeling before the cross of Christ. He later stated, "The words for these stanzas were born out of my own soul with very little effort. I recall that I wrote the verses with tender emotion."

This simple but moving hymn, kept close to the original with minor editing, may be well sung by choirs of all sizes and abilities, a capella or doubled on the piano or organ. Versions in two keys are included to accomodate varying vocal ranges. May the moving words of this once private petition bring to you your own personal comfort and renewal. (Catalogue PM1024)

My Heavenly Father Loves Me
